

Sorry I'm dragging this out, but going to Device Mgr to get the device instance ID for both Base System Device and Audio Device.

I had the same problem with my desktop, but was able to install Realtecs drivers there and all of my audio is now working. won't allow me to override the default MS HD Audio drivers with Realtecs HD AC'97 drivers. My audio/microphone is still not working, headset headphones are working, but the device mgr. Their is probably a way in, but I haven't figured it out yet. I Can't seem to break through the barrier on Dell's website because they won't let me put my specs in my present laptop even when I allow them to scan my laptop, it (they/Dell) shows my current specs, but still refers me to the drivers page for the original VISTA configuration. I've since upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate/64-bit/4 GB RAM/120 GB SSD. I still have the same install that came with my laptop, EXCEPT this laptop came installed w/ VISTA Pro/32-bit/2 GB RAM/140 GB HDD. It took some prodding, but finally was informed that DELL was the only source for updating ATI products in Dell Laptops. A year or two back, I went to ATI to check for updates. I have checked the AMD website but there was no chipset driver available for this.
